I know another church is also using it for a Bible Study. There have been many good comments from attendees about the book. The scripture references and especially the questions at the end of each "lesson" really enhance the value of this really special book. The questions are good "chewing" points to think about and discuss. Each lesson (chapter) is a good length for a 1 to 1 1/2 hour study session. I love the book. While humorous, it is detailed about how scripture supports the author's belief we will know our beloved pets in heaven. First, in my own reading, I found the material to be thought provoking yet at the same time enjoyable, as the author tied quite ethereal topics (love, suffering, disappointment, gratitude, etc.) to very temporal canine activities (tail wagging, treat stealing, pouting behavior). As a trained theologian and a dog lover, I have read much in each field. Dr. Ayres' book bridges the two in a manner that will engage every reader. The second area of enrichment was in having Dr. Ayres agree to teach a six week course at the parish on this material. The feedback I received from each participant was that each grew in their love of their pet and their understanding of Life and God. It doesn't get much better than that. Buy this book.
